It's not just the bottles that are produced, it's so much more!
Here are some more statistics of how producing the 30+ billion water bottles bought in 2006 can waste more than just plastic:
Requires the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of oil – enough to fuel more than one million vehicles for a year. (Note: This was erroneously reported by the New York Times as 1.5 million, and the error is repeated in many places.)
Produces more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Uses three times the amount of water in the bottle

Sparty's Convenience Stores
We have Sparty's convenience stores all over our campus and that means with 47,00 kids, thousands of water bottles are being used every week. Absopure is there water bottle of choice despite the plastic it uses up and even wastes from some not recycling. Why not create a stainless steel water bottle with the Sparty's logo on the front. That's a big step up for ecofriendly!
Did you know..
Actually making the plastic water bottle takes three times the amount of water that is actually in the bottle!
Cutting down on the water bottle we use actually saves extra water in the long run since water production is used in the manufacturing of so many products.
Just another reason to opt for different ways to drink water.

Ecofriendly?
In this advertisement for Ozarka exofriendly water bottles they illustrate how "nature appreciates" their water bottles. This is a great example of misleading advertisements who ignore key issues in how less plastic on the cap and bottle don't solve the amount of people using them recycle.
Ecofriendly Water Bottles at Sparty's
We've created this blog to illustrate the effects of water bottles on our campus, Michigan State University, and more ecofriendly options we could use in our campus convenience store, Sparty's.
